Plain explanations

What the court wrote, then what it means.

Every change in a case comes with the court's text exactly as published, then told simply: what it means and what comes next. For those who are not lawyers, with what they can do and the words explained.

An update: Decision: partly granted, the ruling of Thursday, 8 October, the 30-day deadline for an appeal from service, the court's text quoted and the start of the What it means section.
The Guide tab: the guide's search, the UNBR exam calendar and the start of How to read a case, with an example's number, court, stage and panel.

Three layers, top to bottom

  1. What happened

A short head, for example Decision: partly granted, New hearing or Case postponed, and the case: the number, the court, the panel.

  2. The court's text

Exactly as the court published it, typos and all. We do not rewrite it or cut it: if it is long, you open it with Show the whole text.

  3. In plain words

What it means and what comes next, and the appeal with its deadline, as the court wrote it.

Fixed rules, the same for everyone.

The explanations come from rules written in advance for the courts' rulings and words, so the same ruling is explained the same way to anyone. The court's text always stays beside the explanation, so you can compare them.

  • The appeal and its deadline are the ones written in the ruling; we do not compute dates.
  • An act and an article quoted in the text become a link to their official text.

For those who are not lawyers, simple words.

With the party's, the student's or the “other” profile, the explanation has no jargon, comes with what you can do, and the court's words lead into the app's glossary. With a professional profile, the explanation is short: what it means and what comes next.

  • To a party, the app also says “Ask your lawyer”: only they can say what the ruling means for them.
  • The app does not know which side you are on, so it does not assume.
The Today screen with the party's profile: one large case, the next hearing in 14 days, the court, the courtroom from the list on the door and the Add to calendar button.

The guide in the app.

The Guide tab explains the radar's messages and the court's words: how to read a case (the number, the court, the stage, the panel), what the rulings mean and where to find the case number. It has its own search: type “appeal” or “panel” and find the explanation.

The guide is the fifth tab for parties, magistrates, clerks, journalists, students and “other”; anyone can open it.

And on radarjust.ro.

On the site, the glossary gathers the courts’ words (hearing, panel, procedural stage, ruling, appeal), each explained briefly and read by a person before it goes up. If you have a case and are just starting, getting started takes you from the summons to your case.

The explanation is general. The court's text is what counts.

What we write in plain words is a general explanation, not legal advice: for what it means in your case, ask a lawyer. That is why the court's text always stays beside it, exactly as the court published it.

Questions about the explanations

Who writes the explanations?

They are rules we wrote for the courts' rulings and words, applied the same way to every ruling. They are not written for your case and do not stand in for a lawyer.

Can I have the simple explanations as a lawyer?

Yes: the kind of explanation goes with the profile, and you change the profile any time in Settings › Profile, losing nothing.

Are the explanations in English too?

Yes, in the app’s language. The court’s text stays in Romanian, as the court published it.

I can't find a word. Where do I look?

In the app's Guide tab or in the site's glossary. If it is still missing, write to us at contact@radarjust.ro with the word you need.
